Description of Duties:
The intern will support several community development and/ or environmental initiatives throughout Isles' service areas. These may include the following areas:
Communications
Interns use and/or build on existing skills in writing and editing, social media, photography and videography, and presentation to help Isles create and improve messaging for audiences such as community stakeholders, funders, government agencies, etc.
Community Planning and Development
Gain experience working with residents organize so they can identify land use, economic, environmental, health, education, social service, and other challenges and opportunities in their communities. Activities include community events, urban agriculture initiatives, and other community revitalization efforts.
Energy and Environmental Training Programs
Gain experience working with a team dedicated to training professionals in the energy and environmental fields. This work may include supporting trainings, and administrative work, or planning hands-on learning opportunities.
Policy and Strategic Partnerships
Gain experience in working on the connections between grass roots services and the legislative processes.  This internship will engage in systems-level work to promote advancement in areas related to creating healthy sustainable communities and families.
Research Projects
Interns use or build research skills while helping Isles 1) identify and learn from best practices around the world, 2) collect and organize data used to apply for grant funding and/or to influence local, state and national policy, 3) develop effective measurement tools and criteria that quantify the impact of Isles services. Research internships might support environmental health, community planning, youth development, wealth building or resource development efforts at Isles.
Youth Services
Interns use or build mentoring and coaching skills while working directly with urban youth. Programs include initiatives for individuals ages 16 – 24, who are preparing to take their High School Equivalency Exams, applying and interviewing for jobs, or transitioning to work or higher education. In addition, interns may support afternoon and weekend programming for younger community members through our recreational program (T-Recs) and other community events and services.
